Pakistan cricket fans were left heartbroken after Ali Khan Tareen, the owner of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Multan Sultans, revealed a major setback for pacer Ihsanullah. According to Tareen, Ihsanullah may never be able to bowl at his former pace again.
Ihsanullah’s rise to fame was nothing short of remarkable. During the PSL 2023 season, he became a sensation by consistently bowling at speeds of 150 km/h and finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker with 22 wickets. His fiery pace and accuracy earned him a spot on the Pakistan national team. Ihsanullah made his T20I debut against Afghanistan in March 2023 and his ODI debut against New Zealand the following month.
However, his promising career took an unfortunate turn during his ODI debut when he suffered a severe elbow injury. Following this injury, Ihsanullah underwent surgery, but according to Tareen, the procedure was not handled properly. This has left permanent scarring on his arm, preventing it from fully straightening and affecting his bowling action.
Ihsanullah made a return to cricket in December 2024, playing for the Dolphins in the Champions T20 Cup. Despite high hopes for his comeback, his performance was disappointing. In four matches, he managed only two wickets at an average of 62.5 and an economy rate of 11.19. He remained wicketless in three of those games, showing a significant decline in his form and pace.
Tareen shared that top surgeons had examined Ihsanullah’s condition, and the verdict was grim. Despite the best efforts, the damage caused by the earlier surgery could not be undone. This means Ihsanullah can no longer generate the blistering pace that once made him a standout bowler. His current speed in domestic matches hovers between 130-135 km/h, a sharp drop from his earlier peak of 155 km/h.
