The Koto Hydropower Project in Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is nearing completion and is set to begin producing 40.8 megawatts of affordable electricity this year. This milestone is expected to bring prosperity to the province, boost the local economy, and provide much-needed employment opportunities.
With an annual income forecasted at over Rs. 1.7 billion, the project promises long-term benefits for the region. It has been highlighted as a key development initiative by government officials, including Tariq Mehmood Sadozai, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Energy. During a recent site visit, he expressed satisfaction with the progress but urged the field staff to expedite the remaining work to ensure timely completion.
The Project Director, Sultan Rum, explained that delays occurred due to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in importing machinery. However, significant efforts have been made to overcome these obstacles, and work is progressing steadily.
Once operational, the Koto Hydropower Project will not only help stabilize the economy but also provide the province with a new source of revenue and employment. Officials are optimistic that this development will mark the beginning of a brighter future for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The timely completion of this project is expected to transform the energy landscape of the region and improve the lives of local residents through economic growth and job creation.
