The Sindh government has taken a significant step to address the misuse of official vehicles. A recent decision, led by Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon during a meeting of the Sindh Cabinet’s subcommittee on austerity, focuses on strict measures against individuals misusing government vehicles or failing to return them.
The provincial government plans to register legal cases against those who have not returned official vehicles or are using them without proper authorization. To further improve accountability, the authorities will auction abandoned government vehicles. This initiative aims to generate revenue for essential development projects while discouraging wasteful practices.
Sharjeel Memon emphasized the importance of curbing unnecessary use of official vehicles to reduce expenses and ensure proper utilization of resources. Recommendations were made during the meeting to improve transparency and cut down on excessive spending related to government transportation.
Clear guidelines will soon be established to regulate the use of official vehicles. The process of auctioning unused vehicles will also be carefully monitored to maintain transparency and public trust. Provincial ministers Saeed Ghani and Ali Hassan Zardari, along with other key members, attended the meeting to support these measures.
In a related move, the Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department of Sindh recently announced new policies for vehicle number plates. According to these guidelines, private vehicles will feature white plates with the Sindh Ajrak design, while commercial vehicles will use yellow plates with the same design. Older formats, such as yellow plates for private vehicles and black plates for commercial ones, will no longer be valid after April 3, 2025.
These steps demonstrate the Sindh government’s commitment to ensuring responsible use of public resources and streamlining systems to enhance efficiency.
