Kuwait has introduced a new residency law that sets stricter penalties for those violating residency and visit visa rules. These changes, which came into effect recently, are aimed at ensuring that all foreign nationals comply with the country’s immigration regulations. The updated rules include significant fines for failing to renew residency permits or overstaying visit visas, making it essential for everyone to stay updated and act accordingly.
Foreign nationals entering Kuwait under various visa categories, including for family joining, school enrollment, or work purposes, must secure a residency permit to avoid penalties. Delays in obtaining or renewing these permits can lead to fines starting at KD2 per day within the first month and increasing to KD4 per day after the first month. The maximum fine for such delays is capped at KD1,200, highlighting the importance of timely action.
For those whose employment ends and whose residency permits are canceled, fines for delays in securing a new permit are the same—KD2 per day initially, then KD4 per day for longer delays, with a maximum fine of KD1,200. Domestic workers are also included under these rules. If their residency expires or is not renewed, they face similar fines, but the maximum penalty is KD600.
Families must also ensure they notify authorities of any newborns within four months. Failure to do so can lead to penalties as high as KD2,000. Temporary residency holders and visit visa holders should also pay close attention to their stay limits. Overstaying a visit visa comes with a steep fine of KD10 per day, with a maximum fine of KD2,000.
These rules apply to a wide range of visit visa categories, such as family visits, tourism, governmental or commercial visits, and even cultural or sports activities. Kuwait aims to tighten its residency system and improve compliance with its immigration laws through these new measures.
By staying informed about these updates and following the rules, individuals can avoid unnecessary fines and contribute to smoother immigration processes in Kuwait.
