A significant weather change is expected as a rain-bringing western system is set to enter Pakistan, promising increased rainfall and a drop in temperatures across the country. According to the Meteorological Department, this system is likely to move into Balochistan today, spreading its effects to various regions until January 4.
The arrival of this system is expected to bring rain and snowfall to northern and western Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and surrounding mountainous areas. Islamabad and its surrounding regions will also experience colder weather, with partly cloudy skies and chances of light rain or drizzle.
The regions of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan are forecasted to face intense cold and heavy snowfall, with areas like Chitral, Dir, and Swat likely to receive significant snowfall. Balochistan’s cities, including Quetta and Barkhan, may also witness rainfall and snow, creating picturesque but chilly conditions.
This weather system will also impact Karachi, where colder weather is expected to begin from January 4. The temperature in Karachi could drop below 10 degrees Celsius, adding to the winter chill. Other parts of the country are already experiencing severe cold, with temperatures recorded as low as -9°C in Skardu and -6°C in Gilgit. Murree and Quetta are hovering around freezing, while Islamabad and Peshawar have temperatures close to 1°C.
The colder weather and anticipated precipitation could offer much-needed relief to dry regions, but residents are advised to prepare for potentially hazardous travel conditions in areas expecting heavy snowfall. Keep yourself updated with weather alerts and stay warm during this cold spell.
