Pakistan’s cricket scene continues to produce remarkable talent, as seen in the latest ICC ODI rankings. Young stars Saim Ayub and Agha Salman have made significant strides thanks to their standout performances in recent matches.
Saim Ayub, a rising star in international cricket, leaped 57 places in the ICC ODI rankings to secure the 23rd position with 603 points. His consistent performances, including two centuries in Pakistan’s 3-0 series victory against South Africa, earned him the Player of the Series award. At just 22 years old, Saim has already joined an elite group of players who have scored three ODI centuries before turning 23, putting him in the company of legends like Pakistan’s Salman Butt and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson.
Agha Salman also enjoyed a significant boost, climbing 28 places to 80th in the ODI rankings with 468 points. His vital contributions in the series demonstrated his growing importance to the team as a dependable batter.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain and cricket icon, retained his position as the world’s top-ranked ODI batter for the fourth consecutive year. Despite recent challenges in form, Babar bounced back with two half-centuries against South Africa, reaffirming his dominance in international cricket. Mohammad Rizwan also made progress, moving up three places to 21st in the ODI batter rankings.
In the bowling department, Naseem Shah’s stellar performances earned him a jump of 10 places to 51st in the ICC ODI bowling rankings. However, Shaheen Afridi slipped to third place, overtaken by India’s Kuldeep Yadav and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
The ICC T20I and Test rankings also saw changes for Pakistani players. Saim Ayub advanced to 57th place in T20I batting, while Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan maintained their positions at sixth and eighth, respectively. In Tests, Babar climbed two spots to 15th among batters, with Agha Salman and Mohammad Rizwan reaching 18th and 19th positions.
The ICC has also announced the schedule for the upcoming Champions Trophy, set to begin in February. Matches will be hosted at Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Dubai.
