The free solar system program in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has received an incredible response. More than 1.6 million people have applied, while only 130,000 will be selected to receive free solar panel systems, according to the provincial energy department.
Huge Demand for Solar Energy in KP:
The program aims to help low-income households switch to solar energy. Due to the high demand, the government will distribute the solar systems in two phases. In the first phase, 65,000 people will be selected, followed by another 65,000 in the second phase.
Who Will Get the Free Solar Panels?
The initiative mainly focuses on families registered under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). These households will get priority in the selection process. This program is designed to ease the burden of rising electricity costs and promote clean energy solutions.

Partial Subsidy for Some Households:
Not everyone will get the solar panels for free. Families using up to 100 units of electricity per month will receive a 50% subsidy on the total cost of the system. The estimated price of each solar setup is around Rs200,000.
A Step Toward Renewable Energy:
KP’s free solar initiative is a big step toward promoting renewable energy in Pakistan. With the increasing demand for electricity and rising power bills, solar energy offers a sustainable and cost-effective solution. The overwhelming response to the program highlights the urgent need for affordable energy alternatives in the region.
The selection process is expected to begin soon, and authorities will ensure a fair and transparent distribution of the solar systems.
